Leveraging Student Voice in Behavior Intervention Planning

Providing opportunities for student voice can improve the cultural responsiveness of interventions and lead to stronger outcomes. I will describe a framework for embedding student voice in behavior interventions to address needs across general and special education settings and include findings from a pilot study of a new behavior intervention.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the relationship between self-determination, behavior, and student voice.
Identify the necessary components for effectively incorporating student voice within behavior interventions.
Describe strategies for incorporating student voice across behavior intervention design decisions: writing operational definitions, setting goals, and evaluating progress.
