This session explores how schools can meaningfully include students with extensive support needs (ESN) within the PBIS framework so that every student benefits from a cohesive, tiered system of support. Drawing on current research, we will examine common barriers that limit the participation of students with ESN in PBIS, including issues related to accessibility, misconceptions, and resources and training. Participants will learn practical, evidence‑aligned strategies for adapting PBIS expectations, teaching procedures, acknowledgement systems, and data collection practices to ensure students with ESN are fully represented and supported across all tiers. The session emphasizes accessibility, equity, and intentional planning so that PBIS truly functions as a framework for all students.

Learning Objectives:

Identify key research findings on the inclusion of students with ESN within PBIS.
Analyze common barriers that prevent students with ESN from fully accessing PBIS.
Identify strategies to adapt PBIS expectations, teaching routines, acknowledgment systems, and data practices to better support students with ESN across all tiers.
